LeadWorthy

Course Description 
​

The LeadWorthy class will be a course for 7th grade students.  This opportunity will allow students on campus to develop critical, life-changing skills including taking personal responsibility, expressing themselves well, and making good decisions when problems arise.

Leadworthy is a research-based curriculum designed to develop personal responsibility, leadership, and professional skills through explicit social-emotional participatory learning experiences. The course provides students the opportunity to develop an awareness of personal image, a healthy self-concept, and healthy relationships. Students learn the concepts of consequential thinking and principle-based decision making. Students examine their awareness of social media, the effects of peer pressure and bullying, along with effective strategies to counteract those effects. This course will provide students opportunities to improve their public speaking and communication skills and their personal vision, mission statement, and goals. They will develop an understanding of what it means to be an effective member of the community through community service.  

 

Daily assignments will be composed of but not limited to: warm-up activities, worksheets, agendas, project evaluations, icebreakers, journals, speeches and other miscellaneous activities.

Course Outcomes

  Train student leaders in various aspects of leadership

  Analyze styles, skills, strengths, and weaknesses of leaders

  Apply the leadership concepts learned to daily life

  Initiate group and individual service projects to benefit others

  Commit to being a role model and document growth as a leader in journal

  Contribute to organizations, teams, and school-wide activities

  Become proficient public speakers
